Are you ready to JAM? Prescott Folk Fest is Coming UP!

Are you ready to JAM?

Annually, Sharlot Hall Museum hosts its Folk Music Festival to the delight of fans from throughout Arizona and the neighboring states for two days of music and merriment.

I’ll be playing there on Sunday, October 2, with my buddy, Rick Boyle. We’re called Begged and Borrowed. Also, if you’re there on Saturday the 1st, check out my workshop: I’ve always wanted to Play the Harp. I’ll have 10 or more baby harps available for you to use to take your first lesson – loads of fun are in store!

More than 200 musicians… 90 performances… four different venues… all on the four-acre campus in downtown Prescott, Arizona, as we celebrate 38 years of folk music at this recognized and heralded festival set for Saturday and Sunday, October 1 & 2.

Support Local Art in Goodyear, AZ August 6

Polaris

The Goodyear Public Library will be honoring local artists on August 6 from 5 – 7 pm, and I will be performing at the reception. Please come on out – it promises to be a good time and you will be supporting local art, too. That’s good, right?

I’ve Always Wanted to Play the Harp with Peacocks!

Have you always wanted to play a harp? Have you ever wanted to play a harp? Now that you are thinking about it, wouldn’t it be fun to play a harp?

On Sunday, I’m leading an “I always wanted to play the harp” workshop at the Glendale Folk Festival. I will have harps for you to try out. There is plenty to keep you occupied the rest of the day, too.

  • At 10 am with the Strand: we’re leading a Celtic Jam. Play with us or just come to listen and meet some really cool musicians.
  • The harp workshop is at 11 am
  • The Strand plays at 2:30 in the Fruit Packing Shed
  • All day long, there is plenty to see and do. Performers on every stage, nook, cranny and porch. You can hear blues, bluegrass, old timey, contemporary folk, Celtic, you name it, it’s there.

So what’s with the peacocks? The Sahuaro Ranch Park is a 17 acre historic place, with original buildings, showcasing the agricultural origins of the Valley. The land has 13 historic buildings, some farming, and peacocks that roam freely. You never know when one will join in a session – last year one hopped down from the roof while we warmed up for our set – maybe for a better seat in the audience? 🙂

So join us on March 22 for a day of “colorful” fun!

The Blue Yeti

It doesn’t live in the wild, and it’s not covered with fur (although I’m sure my cats will have something to say about that as time goes by). The Blue Yeti  is a honkin’ big microphone that is now taking up the middle of my living room floor. I’m still getting used to it, and learning how to record on my tablet. There is a lot to learn, but you can really hear the difference. This beast is sensitive.

So far, so good. I have a few samples up on the Music page so far.

Let’s hope that the Strand can get some time together to make a Christmas CD this year, ok? 🙂

The Strand at Sozo Coffeehouse Saturday!

Come hear the Strand perform at Sozo Coffeehouse this coming Saturday, 7/21, from 7 – 8:30 pm. We’ll be playing lots of traditional Irish, Celtic, and some American music. Rick Boyle on guitar, bouzouki, and vocals, Steve Pawlowski on guitar, bodhran, and vocals, moi on flute, whistles, harp, and vocals.

Sozo is “coffee with a cause,”  and donates a portion of all sales to local, national, and international charities. So not only will you hear some good music, you’ll do some good for the world, too.
