Hmmm. I like to see the harp used outside of its usual context, but I see a lot of flash here without much substance. That’s just my humble opinion. Are you familiar with Deborah Henson Conant? She’s a jazz harpist who also does Celtic material. She’s more my cup of tea.
I am going to have to do a post on the South American Harp. The one in the video looks Paraguayan, but I am *no* expert on the different SA harps. I do know that they hold them upside down to play (and march with them), so I was especially tickled to see him do that at the end.
I can’t wait to hear her this fall with Steve Vai, either in LA or Denver. Can you believe he’s going to Salina Kansas, but not Phoenix (no offense, Kansas…)
Deborah Henson-Conant and Steve Vai? Now THERE’S an interesting duo. I saw Vai 10 or 12 years ago at the Celebrity Theater (a three-guitar extravaganza with Joe Satriani and someone else — can’t remember who). While Vai wasn’t totally my cup of tea, I found it amusing that, during one languid number, he had a fan blowing his hair around. Hope it was done tongue-in-cheek.

Yes, Deborah is amazing, isn’t she! https://shannonschumann.com/2012/06/05/the-triviality-of-impossiblities/
